April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. In seventh grade she began playing guitar and taking piano lessons which ignited her interest in writing songs. April's very first song was called Different, which she wrote when she was 12 years old. At the age of 14, April spent a lot of her time writing song ideas and practicing her musical skills. Then, in the following months, April began to travel with her dad and write either in NY or LA. The month also saw her include different topics related to some of her peers who are dealing with such things as social pressure and teen suicide in the song Take my Hand. Lockhart is a lifestyle and beauty influencer who has a growing number of followers. She is a partner with the popular brand Ilia with whom she has a partnership in addition to being an expert in the field of lifestyle. Lockhart was never born with a left-hand, which is the reason she's who she is. But that's far from the full story. Lockhart's profile on Twitter doesn't ignore her being disabled, but neither does it make a point of it. The message? The message is that we are more than the physical person we are. Our identities are complicated and we contain many different aspects. Lockhart talks via video in Nashville. "I do not wish for it to dictate my existence. I do not want to be merely known as a disability expert. My day-today life is not dependent on it. I go about my regular, everyday life and find myself solutions for problems. Since it's a an integral part of me It's a topic worthy of talking about. Lockhart encourages us to keep striving to be self-accepting. However, she acknowledges going through periods of being uncomfortable with her body, at times, being unsure about wearing specific types of clothes that showed the arms of her. Now she wears whatever outfit she likes and uploads photos on Facebook with pride. The self-love she talks about is a journey. It's not clear when you'll reach the end. This is true for everyone, regardless of their insecurity. It is important to have people that know and can relate to you. They'll be the ones to ask your: What are you think about?
